is scamming against the EULA?
It has happened to me twice in two days, that a seemingly new player joins my guild, abuses my generosity by asking for stuff (yes I know I'm too nice for my own good), and after getting them, leaves. Is this against the eula and thus reportable to A.net?
I read a bit of the eula and couldn't find anything about it, but it would be strange if A.net thought it to be ok. Thanks in advance, Orre. (and please no meaningless posts about how stupid I am, a simple answer is all I ask for) (sorry for posting this if a thread like this already exists, the search button didn't work) Last edited by Orre; Nov 07, 2005 at 10:28 PM // 22:28.. |

I think that's more of a breach of trust than a scam. But scamming is for the most part against the rules. If you think it merits action on the person's account, send a ticket to support at www.guildwars.com and see what they say.

If you read through the TOS/EULA, scamming is definitely against 'the rules'. They might have been scamming, or they could just be jerks. Were you a recruiter that advertises help and items on the chat channel? There's always a little more to a situation than we know about. I do still think its rude to take advantage of others like that. With that said, I think there is a little more here to think about.
There is a lot to being a guild leader. If you get a sizable guild going you are going to get new people who will beg or want guild members to do everything for them. There will be guild members who don't get along. All I'm saying is you gotta be bit more saavy here. A couple rules I follow when giving stuff away: 1. Can I piss this item or money away and not care? 2. Does the person need it, or just want something cooler? 3. How well do I know the person? So if it's a nice item will they return it if they don't need it? I'm not saying don't give stuff away. In fact it would be a shame if this experience put you off from helping your guildies. Maybe give new members a 2 week trial period before they get free drok runs, crafting materials, etc. In that two weeks they can display their willingness to help the guild and you can see what, if anything, they have to offer. Good luck. ^.^ |

I too have had this happen to me. I am only an officer of my guild, but I am notorious for giving guildmates nice items (greens, purples, and golds) and have had people quit the guild a day or two later. Pisses me off, but I just chalk it up to fate and now only give items to people who have been in the guild for at least 3 weeks.

Well, sorry to hear. Like one of the previous posts, a breach of trust. Even though it was your choice to do it, it was out of the best for your hope to help others. I suggest sticking to giving it to trustworthy people. As in people that you make friends with over time. Or, maybe to make you feel better, give it to people who aren't in your guild. That way you won't risk the feeling of them using you then getting out of your guild.
Good luck to you in the future. You'll be repaid back somehow. |
